Frequently Asked Questions

How is the program delivered? Is it live classes on a set schedule or self-study?

It's a mix of both. The curriculum is delivered to you on a set schedule every week along with the relevant assignments. You post the assignments in the Facebook group along with any art updates. Our community is supportive and engaging. After the 8 weeks, you have lifetime access to the materials and videos, including future coaching call replays. Most of our students spend a lot of time revisiting the material since it’s an endless library for us creatives. Remember: follow the process, share, sell, then rinse and repeat.

What if I’m a complete beginner?

The curriculum is designed to meet all painting abilities. From complete beginners, to Master Degree artists, we guide you toward innovative approaches on color, composition, and technique to develop your voice. As a beginner, you have the advantage of skipping the time and money many artists have already invested elsewhere because you found this first! There’s no fluff here—only actionable, valuable information on how to paint for a lifetime.

I’m not set up as a business. Should I make my website and Instagram first?

No, this will only lead to procrastination. Finding the time to make a website without making any art first is counterintuitive. Your marketing will be so much easier as a result of this program and many artists find themselves selling paintings during the 8 weeks while in a safe and supportive community. It’s a win-win situation!

What is the time commitment needed to really succeed in this program?

I recommend you spend a minimum of 2-3 hours per week. This gives you plenty of time to complete assignments and attend coaching calls. The videos are short and to the point so you’ll have plenty of time to paint after the assignments too. Within a few weeks, you’ll be overflowing with ideas and inspiration while painting way more quickly and prolifically!

Do I need to buy tons of new supplies?

Show up as you are, and with what you have. Art is about being resourceful. You can start with the materials you have, share the paint colors you’re using, and give yourself a few weeks to adjust to the homework before adding new supplies. As long as you have paints, brushes, and a surface to paint on, you’re all set!

What if I work a full-time job or if I’m a stay-at-home mom?

First, hi boss-lady! We have many students that are moms and work full-time. Our artists find that our program structure gives them the exact accountability and support they need to carve out painting time. It is totally doable to take our program on a busy schedule. And if you need the extra support or encouragement, we are with you every step of the way!

Why should I learn from Amira Rahim? I don’t want to paint abstractly.

Better Than Art School™ was birthed out of my studio as a self-taught artist. I specialize in expressionist paintings that can be expressed in figures, landscapes, florals, and yes, abstract. This curriculum is the result of selling thousands of dollars worth of art paired with the knowledge I cultivated, which was NOT taught in art school. I’ve coached hundreds of artists over the past few years and I also sell my work full-time, work on commissions, and take on licensing projects. With every money block, horror story, and sad exhibition experience you can imagine, I’ve probably experienced it already. I know what it takes to run an art business and have been a supportive voice in the art community for the past 6 years. But rather than trusting me, trust yourself. You can do this and so much more!

Stop the second-guessing in the studio and start succeeding in your painting journey!
